Governing as Social Democrats: Key policy priorities for the left in Europe

The redistributive model of the state is in crisis. Post-crisis social democracy should be animated by a dual mission: pursuing resilience in our societies and institutions; and structural reforms geared towards sustainable growth and human capital investment.

About the author:

Patrick Diamond is a senior fellow at Policy Network. He is Gwilym Gibbon Fellow at Nuffield College, Oxford, and a Visiting Fellow in the Department of Politics at the University of Oxford.

This paper will be presented at the Policy Network Progressive Governance Conference, to be hosted by the Leader of the Irish Labour Party, Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore in Dublin on the 12 October, 2012.
