Leadership change at Policy Network

Michael McTernan is to leave his role as director of Policy Network in October to take up a post at the University of Strathclyde. Michael has given over seven years loyal and distinguished service to Policy Network in various roles and the board of directors places on record their warm thanks and appreciation for his service.

A process to appoint Policy Network’s next director is being put place and a job advertisement will be posted in the coming weeks.

Chair of the board of directors

Patrick Diamond has been appointed co-chair of Policy Network, where he will work alongside current chair Roger Liddle. Patrick, currently the thinktank’s vice-chair and research director, is lecturer in public policy at Queen Mary, University of London and a visiting fellow at Nuffield College, University of Oxford. He is a former head of policy planning in 10 Downing Street and senior policy adviser to the prime minister.

Roger Liddle said:

"Michael McTernan has done a brilliant job for Policy Network. But he has moved to Scotland for family reasons. We are very sad indeed to lose him and wish him all the best for a successful future.

"I would also like to congratulate Patrick Diamond on his appointment as co-chair and his designation by the Policy Network board as my successor in due course. Patrick will lead the open recruitment process for a new full-time director. Given his academic background, his extensive policymaking experience and his long commitment to the organisation, he is the right person to lead Policy Network to an even stronger future.”
