"Economic Reform in Europe" book launch

  • Date(s)
    10 November 2004
  • Location

Policy Network has launched its latest pamphlet, Economic Reform in Europe: Priorities for the next five years. The event, which was co-organised with the Brussels-based think tank The Centre, took place on the 10th of November in Brussels.

A panel discussion among the editors of the volume, Roger Liddle and Maria João Rodrigues, as well as European Commissioner Joaquin Almunia and Commissioner designate Peter Mandelson, was followed by a question and answer session with the audience.

As the new European Commission is set to take office, and the mid-term review of the Lisbon Strategy reports, this collection of essays reviews the progress of economic reform in Europe.

The contributors challenge pre-existing assumptions about economic reform from a progressive perspective, identify priorities for more effective policy-making and define new mechanisms in order to achieve them.  Contributors to this project include: John Kay, Alan Mayhew, Maurizio Ferrera, Luc Soete, Stephen Davis, David Pitt-Watson and Jean Pisani-Ferry.
