Pierre Moscovici: in conversation with Peter Mandelson

As Europe comes to terms with the new global political landscape post Trump and the Brexit vote, Policy Network hosts senior European commissioner Pierre Moscovici in conversation with Peter Mandelson.

A former French Socialist finance minister, in Brussels Moscovici holds the key economic, financial and tax portfolio and is set to play a central role both in the Brexit negotiations and the EU’s attempt to renew its political project.

Commissioner Moscovici will discuss the ideas presented in his new book, If it's Midnight in Europe, on the lessons that the EU must draw from this tumultuous political year. To face the populist threat, he argues, Europe – and the eurozone in particular – must focus on three priorities: protecting its citizens, strengthening its democratic legitimacy and boosting its economic performance.

Policy Network president Peter Mandelson will press the commissioner to explain just how the EU’s patchy economic performance can be boosted, question what the real impact of Brexit will be and ask if the EU itself can withstand the populist tide.

Join us for what promises to be a lively, and highly topical, conversation with ample opportunity for you to put your questions to one of Europe’s most influential, but also most thoughtful, politicians.
