Can Labour win again without Scotland – lessons from Europe

After suffering two brutal defeats in in as many years Scottish Labour is now the third party at Holyrood. There is no obvious road to recovery, and whatever happens it is clear it will be a long time till Scotland delivers to Westminster the large block of Labour MPs that previous Labour governments have relied on for power.

This fringe will ask – can Labour win at Westminster without Scotland? It will seek to do so in the context of the experience of sister social democratic parties elsewhere in Europe who are also facing challenges from regional and nationalist parties.

Speakers:

Jackie Baillie, Labour MSP and economy, fair work and jobs spokesperson

Torcuil Crichton, Westminster editor, Daily Record

Manuel de la Rocha, secretary of economy for the Spanish Socialist Worker’s party

John Denham, former Labour MP and Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government

Patrick Diamond, co-chair, Policy Network

Naushabah Khan, Labour councillor and former PPC
