In an event co-hosted by Europabevegelsen, Policy Network senior researcher Claudia Chwalisz will present the findings of her research in 'The Populist Signal: Why Politics and Democracy Need to Change' to Bergen.

Claudia's research focuses on the crisis affecting representative democracy and therefore the need for democratic innovation, such as the use of citizens' assemblies, in an attempt to involve more people in political decision-making.

The even will also include commentary from: Ove Sverre Bjørdal, Group Leader, Centre Party in the City Council of Bergen; Janet Wiberg, Green Party; and Stig Abrahamsen, Leader of FrP Askøy. There will also be debate with the audience, led by Torbjørn Wilhelmsen, president, European Movement Hordaland.

Some of the key questions that will be focused on at the event include:

  • How to engage ordinary people more in the democratic process?
  • Why do people take the democratic process for granted?
  • What needs to change to enhance democracy?
