The wealth and job creators of tomorrow: How Labour can support innovative and high-growth firms

High-growth and innovative firms are responsible for nearly two-thirds of employment growth in the UK. Moreover, economies with a more dynamic population of businesses tend to generate faster productivity growth. But the British economy continues to be held back from fulfilling its potential.

Our panel will debate:

  • What more needs to be done to support the financing of innovative and fast growing?
  • How the connections between entrepreneurs and financiers can be more effectively made within a city-regions’ ecosystem?
  • What needs to be done to improve the UK’s ongoing technical skills shortage?
  • To what extent Britain needs to increase its investment in science, technology and research and development?

The event will build on Policy Network’s work on inclusive growth policies – which has included Andrew Adonis’s UK Growth Review and work led by David Sainsbury on ‘progressive capitalism’ – to debate how innovative and high-growth SMEs can be financed and supported.

Speakers:

Michael Brackpool, vice-president channels and partnerships EMEA, Brandwatch

Tim Hames, director general, British Venture Capital Association

Xavier Rolet, chief executive, London Stock Exchange Group

Chi Onwurah MP, shadow minister for the digital economy

Chair: Roger Liddle, chair, Policy Network

Further speakers to be announced

Partners: London Stock Exchange Group, BVCA
