"Neither Podemos nor Pasokification": How Labour should respond to growing populism

In a keynote speech for Policy Network, Tristram Hunt outlined his ideas for how, following its recent election defeat, the Labour party can respond to the rise of populism within the UK.

With rapid technological change, globalisation and weakening productivity threatening the economic security of citizens in a post-industrial era; social democracies across Europe are facing an electoral crisis.

With public support for ‘populist’ parties growing and anti-establishment narratives continue to shape European political discourse, mainstream political parties need to reform to survive.

Drawing on the Labour party’s past Tristram Hunt offered some insights into how the Labour party can respond to this challenge.

Tristram Hunt, Labour MP and shadow secretary of state for education
