A European 'Capital Markets Union': Supporting investors and growth firms?

This breakfast seminar will assess how the EU’s proposed 'Capital Markets Union' can help finance growth and innovative SMEs across Europe.

With the European commission expected to publish detailed proposals in the summer, the event marks the UK launch of Policy Network’s report Supporting Investors and Growth Firms: A Bottom-Up Approach to a Capital Markets Union. Policy Network’s senior adviser, Thomas Aubrey, will set out proposals for a bottom-up EU policy agenda. Based on interviews and data analysis across six major European economies, the proposals are focused on improving the tax, legal and business support environment for investors and firms. It argues that the commission should focus on encouraging the introduction of tax incentives for business angel and venture capital investors, expanding the role of the European Investment Fund, minimum standards for business rescue, promoting high-quality securitisation for bank lending, and enforcing existing rules and the sharing of best practice between member states.
