Investment, reforms and the future of the Eurozone

A conversation with Pierre Moscovici

On Friday 30 January, the EU commissioner for economic and financial affairs, taxation and customs Pierre Moscovici will be in London to meet with government officials and the media. On this occasion, Policy Network will host a roundtable meeting with Pierre Moscovici to discuss the most pressing European economic dossiers.

The European Commission’s new executive has made a strong start pushing forward a strategic agenda of investment and reforms. The launch by the European Central Bank of a programme of government bonds purchase also improves the prospects for higher growth in the EU. It is nevertheless too early to assess the impact of these measures. Also, the political situation in several member states presents with possible risks and continues casting a shadow on the future of the Economic and monetary union (EMU).

Against this background, the roundtable will address the following issues:
•         The economic outlook for the eurozone in 2015
•         The European Commission’s recent initiatives to encourage reforms and investment;
•         Perspectives for the deepening of the EMU
•         The Commission's priorities in the field of taxation
