Scenarios for a reformed EU

The UK debate on Europe is dominated by the prospect of a referendum and by questions around the feasibility of and the scope for ‘EU reform’. Yet scenarios for a reformed EU are also discussed in other European countries against the backdrop of the eurozone’s difficulties and a general public disaffection vis-à-vis Brussels.

This event will mark the launch of the ‘New Pact for Europe’ final report, which provides fresh ideas and guidance for clarifying the EU’s purpose and improving the way it operates. The panel discussion will allow for a debate on EU reform and where there might be commonality between the UK’s agenda of renegotiation and continental partners.

Confirmed speakers include:

Pat McFadden, Labour’s shadow Europe minister

Janis Emmanouildis, director of studies and head of programme at the European Policy Centre, Brussels

Laura Sandys, Chair of the European Movement and Conservative MP for South Thanet

George Parker, political editor, Financial Times

The event benefits from the support of Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust.
