The EU after the European elections

Policy Network, the European Commission Representation in the United Kingdom and Nomura will host a major conference on EU affairs on the 5th of June 2014. Coming two weeks after the European elections, this event will bring together an audience of politicians, policymakers, thinkers, media commentators and business stakeholders from across the political spectrum to discuss the most pressing challenges faced by the European Union and its member states.

Keynote speakers include Joaquín Almunia, vice-president of the European Commission and EU competition commissioner, and Jeroen Dijsselbloem, finance minister of the Netherlands and president of the Eurogroup.
Expert panel debates will be led by Peter Mandelson, former EU trade commissioner, former UK first secretary of state and president of Policy Network; Loukas Tsoukalis, president of the Hellenic Foundation of European and Foreign Policy; Heather Grabbe, director of the Open Society European Policy Institute; Gideon Rachman, chief foreign affairs commentator, Financial Times; Thomas Matussek, former German ambassador to the UK; Michael Moore, UK member of parliament; Laurence Boone, Bank of America Merrill Lynch Global Research; David Benson, vice chairman of risk and regulatory affairs, Nomura; Shahin Vallée, adviser to the president of the European Council; Vicky Pryce, chief economic adviser, Centre for Economics and Business Research.

Panel debates:

  • What shape for EU politics in the aftermath the European elections?
  • The race for global relevance: what policy agenda for the next European Commission?

This will be Policy Network’s fourth annual EU conference hosted this year by Nomura. This year's event offers a stimulating opportunity to discuss EU affairs at a timely and critical juncture for Britain and the European project.

This event is co-funded by the European Commission Representation in the United Kingdom and hosted by Nomura.
