UK economy: the crisis in perspective

Policy Network is co-hosting a breakfast seminar with the European Commission to mark the recent publication of a comprehensive collection of essays on the UK economy's recent history, present state and future.
UK Economy: the crisis in perspective is edited by EC economists, Robert Kuenzel, Gabriele Giudice and Tom Springbett, published recently in co-edition with Routledge and includes contributions from, among others, Chris Pissarides, Martin Weale, Ray Barrell, and Dave Ramsden. The book covers all key aspects of the UK's golden decade of growth and the financial crisis which ended it, including the drivers of growth, the sustainability of domestic consumption, the labour market, fiscal policy, the financial sector and the external position. It forms a comprehensive and rigorous assessment of the UK's economic track record and its strengths and challenges that lie ahead.
This informal roundtable event will include an introductory presentation by the editors, followed by a panel discussion and Q&A session.
Gabriele Giudice, editor of UK Economy: the Crisis in Perspective
Jonathan Scheele, head of the European Commission Representation in the UK
Roger Liddle, chair of Policy Network and Labour member in the House of Lords
Philip Stephens, associate editor of the Financial Times
Sam Beckett, director of the Fiscal Group in the HM Treasury
