Building a climate investment community
The European Union’s new approach to climate negotiations?

Global Utmaning, the Stockholm-based thinktank, is proposing a new EU-led initiative to establish a Climate Investment Community. Since the UN cycle of international negotiations are unlikely to reach a legally binding global agreement on an emissions reduction strategy in the near future, the purpose of this community is to provide a new and innovative but also complementary approach to this issue. By making low-carbon technologies profitable and fossil fuels unprofitable, industry and big business would be provided with an incentive to invest in and lead on the greenhouse gas mitigation. The result will of such a community will be to maintain and reinforce the momentum towards the global agreement that is so desperately necessary.
