The EU in 2020: fit for what purpose?

Policy Network and Terra Nova will hold a two day symposium on the future of the European Union in Paris on the 22nd and 23rd of April 2010.

Bringing together a selection of senior French and European politicians, policymakers and expert thinkers, the focus will be on the passage to an effective and legitimate “EU 2020” strategy. The speakers will lead an open debate on how the EU must evolve and operate if it is to live up to the expectations and hopes of many of its citizens after the adoption of the Lisbon Treaty.

Une UE à la hauteur des enjeux de l’âge global – Peut-on relever le défi?The meeting will consist of a public lecture at the Mairie du IIIe arrondissement, followed by a roundtable workshop at the Assemblee nationale to mark the launch of the French translation of Policy Network's "An EU fit for purpose in the global age: can we rise to the challenge?" synthesis report. Toute L'Europe will be the media partner for the event and will feature commentary, interviews and analysis.

Sandro Gozi, deputy spokesperson for the Italian Democratic Party in the parliamentary committee on European Union policies

This conference builds on a research initiative entitled ‘An EU “fit for purpose” in the global age’ organised by Policy Network, in association with the European Institute of the London School of Economics and the ELIAMEP thinktank in Athens.

Three volumes of collected papers on EU policy choices post-2009, together with a comprehensive synthesis report, mark the climax of this project:
