Policy Network's director Olaf Cramme and vice chair Roger Liddle gave speeches at a conference entitled the centre-left across Europe: step forward or step back? in Barcelona on 6 June 2008.

The event, organised by Policy Network in association with the Fundacio Rafael Campalans, included a public session entitled "New Labour under Gordon Brown", which considered New Labour's political discourse under Brown, the party's vision for the country and its concept of equality.

Other speakers included Baroness Jan Royall, Labour’s chief whip in the House of Lords; and Patrick Diamond, director of policy and strategy, Commission for Equality and Human Rights. The meeting was chaired by Miquel Iceta, vice-general secretary of the party of Catalan socialists.
