Claudia Chwalisz
Policy Researcher

Claudia is a policy researcher. She holds an MSc in European Public Policy, University College London and a BA (Hons) in Political Studies from Queen’s University, Canada. Her research interests include populism, EU reform, and the future of social democracy.

Olaf Cramme


Olaf is director of Policy Network and a visiting fellow at the London School of Economics' European Institute. He is also a member of the General Assembly of the Lisbon Council for Economic Competitiveness and Social Renewal, and co-founder and vice-chairman of Das Progressive Zentrum, a Berlin-based political thinktank. Previously, he was a lecturer in European politics at London Metropolitan University and worked as a parliamentary researcher at the Houses of Parliament. Olaf publishes widely on the future of the European Union and European social democracy, and is editor of Rescuing the European project: EU legitimacy, governance and security (Policy Network, 2009), and co-editor (with Patrick Diamond) of Social Justice in the Global Age (Polity Press, 2009) and After the Third Way (I.B. Tauris 2012).

Patrick Diamond

Vice Chair

Patrick is Vice Chair. He is Lecturer in Public Policy at Queen Mary, University of London, Gwilym Gibbon Fellow at Nuffield College, Oxford, and a Visiting Fellow in the Department of Politics at the University of Oxford. Patrick is also an elected member of Southwark Council. He is the former Head of Policy Planning in 10 Downing Street and Senior Policy Adviser to the Prime Minister. Patrick has spent ten years as a Special Adviser in various roles at the heart of British Government, including No.10 Downing Street, the Cabinet Office, the Northern Ireland Office, and the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) where he served as Group Director of Strategy. His recent publications include: Beyond New Labour (with Roger Liddle, 2009); Social Justice in the Global Age (with Olaf Cramme, 2009) and and After the Third Way (with Olaf Cramme, 2012); and Global Europe, Social Europe (with Anthony Giddens, 2006).

Emma Kinloch

Events and stakeholder manager

Emma is events and stakeholder manager. Emma holds a BA (Hons) from the University of Hull in British Politics and Legislative Studies and an MSc from the Gender Institute of the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) in Gender and Social Policy. Emma has previously worked as a Parliamentary assistant for a number of MPs.

Michael McTernan

Deputy Director

Michael is deputy director of Policy Network. He leads on Policy Network publications and co-ordinates research programmes on the future of social democracy and the rise of populism in Europe. He is editor of the Policy Network Observatory and the thinktank's monthly State of the Left report. He is author of Distributional Conflicts in the US and Europe (Policy Network paper, 2012) and co-editor of Progressive Politics after the Crash: Governing from the Left (With Olaf Cramme & Patrick Diamond, I.B Tauris).

Seamus Nevin

Commissioning Editor

Seamus is commissioning editor. Seamus holds a (Joint Hons.) B.A. International in History, Politics and International Relations from University College Dublin. At UCD he was awarded a Parnell Scholarship and also won the T.D. Williams Medal for graduating first place in his class. In addition he holds an (Hons) MSc from the LSE and a diplôme from the Institut d'études politiques de Paris (Sciences Po-Paris). Seamus conceptualises and commissions the articles for the Policy Network Observatory and the thinktank's monthly State of the Left report, and sets the agenda for all Policy Network’s debates, newsletters, articles and publications. He also manages Policy Network's communications and media relations.

Renaud Thillaye

Senior Researcher

Renaud is senior researcher. A graduate of the LSE’s European Institute, he focuses mainly on institutional aspects of European integration and socio-economic policies at both EU and national levels. Renaud has a background in regional and local politics in France, having worked for several years as an adviser to political leaders in Auvergne. He holds a degree from the Institut d'études politiques de Paris (Sciences Po-Paris). His areas of interests cover the politics of socio-economic reform in Europe, the future of democracy, and the renewal of centre-left thinking.
