Olaf Cramme

Director



Olaf is director of Policy Network and a visiting fellow at the London School of Economics' European Institute. He is also a member of the General Assembly of the Lisbon Council for Economic Competitiveness and Social Renewal, and co-founder and vice-chairman of Das Progressive Zentrum, a Berlin-based political thinktank. Previously, he was a lecturer in European politics at London Metropolitan University and worked as a parliamentary researcher at the Houses of Parliament. Olaf publishes widely on the future of the European Union and European social democracy, and is editor of Rescuing the European project: EU legitimacy, governance and security (Policy Network, 2009), and co-editor (with Patrick Diamond) of Social Justice in the Global Age (Polity Press, 2009).

Patrick Diamond

Senior research fellow

 
Patrick is Gwilym Gibbon Fellow at Nuffield College, Oxford, and a Visiting Fellow in the Department of Politics at the University of Oxford. Patrick is also an elected member of Southwark Council. He is the former Head of Policy Planning in 10 Downing Street and Senior Policy Adviser to the Prime Minister. Patrick has spent ten years as a Special Adviser in various roles at the heart of British Government, including No.10 Downing Street, the Cabinet Office, the Northern Ireland Office, and the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) where he served as Group Director of Strategy. His recent publications include: Beyond New Labour (with Roger Liddle, 2009); Social Justice in the Global Age (with Olaf Cramme, 2009); and Global Europe, Social Europe (with Anthony Giddens, 2006).

Rob Macpherson

Website and communication manager



Rob manages Policy Network's website, including the Social Democracy Observatory, and coordinates newsletters and social media communication. A journalist and political blogger, Rob has previously worked for New Labour pressure group Progress and as a media strategist for several healthcare clients. He holds a BA in History and Politics from the University of Nottingham with a strong focus on social justice and international relations.

Michael McTernan

Editor and senior researcher



Michael is editor and senior researcher. He leads on Policy Network publications and coordinates the "Amsterdam Process" research programme on the future of European social democracy. He is also editor of the Social Democracy Observatory and State of the Left insight report. Previously, Michael worked on research and communications at Genesis, a strategic management consultancy in Glasgow. His research interests include centre-left party politics in Europe, the future of social democracy and international relations.




Alexandra Pretti

Executive assistant to the chair and office manager



Alex is the first point of contact for the organisation’s chair, Roger Liddle and also provides support to the director and senior research fellow. She joined Policy Network in October 2009 as office manager after several years in the charity sector, including time spent working at Crisis UK. Originally from Brazil, Alex moved to the UK over 12 years ago; she is very involved in voluntary work in the social care sector in both the UK and Brazil.

Katherine Roberts

Stakeholder and events manager



Katherine is responsible for co-ordinating events and stakeholder engagement. She holds a BA in International Political Economy from University of California, Berkeley and an MSc in Democracy and Democratisation from University College London.

Kathyrn Skidmore

Head of operations and events


Kathryn is the head of operations and events and responsible for developing and delivering the events programme, external relations, profile raising and communication. She also has budgetary responsibility for all work streams. Previously Kathryn was head of events at Age Concern England where she was responsible for developing the strategy for high profile influencing events and managing celebrity and corporate engagement. Kathryn holds a BSc (Hons) in Business Management and a CIM diploma in Marketing.

Renaud Thillaye

Policy reseacher



Renaud is policy researcher. A graduate of the LSE’s European Institute, he focuses mainly on institutional aspects of European integration and socio-economic policies at both EU and national levels. Renaud has a background in regional and local politics in France, having worked for several years as an adviser to political leaders in Auvergne. He holds a masters degree from Sciences Po-Paris. His areas of interests cover the politics of socio-economic transition in Europe, the future of democracy, and the renewal of centre-left thinking.
